The decision to go to a New Wave Catamaran was a natural progression but not any easy one. Says Chris Ede director of Tusa Dive “If you have of asked me ten years ago if would have considered an Aluminium Catamaran I would have said no way. The advantages are just too much to go past. Basically we are replacing two boats with the one.” Tusa 3 and Tusa 4 have been sold off and are now being replaced with the sleek new catamaran. The decision to benefit from extra capacity and fuel consumption being a natural progression. Having seen first hand the aft’ end of the New Wave Seacats currently in operation in the region, they decided to order the latest version with new styling to set themselves apart from the rest.
The result is this sleek new vessel with distinctive styling and branding. Dubbed as “T5” T5 is the 9th custom designed dive boat of around this size completed by Paul Birgan of Seaspeed Design for the Cairns Port Douglas region. The hulls fit out will be upgraded each year.
The new boat comes with excellent fuel consumption of 230 ltrs/hr at 27 knot full load and speed. Down the range it is 160ltr/hr at 20 knots. Powered by twin MTU series 60 (490 kw) engines with twin disc gearboxes and a one off Cummins 60 kva genset with new wave custom built sound shield.
Features on the vessel include: Lounge seating, Bain Marie, double acting hydraulic dive platform, tmq electric hydraulic steering and electronics.
