Pure Dive
New Wave Catamarans (NWC) have just launched the new16 Metre foil-cat “Pure Dive” and after extensive trialing this sleek high-speed catamaran is performing very well.
“Pure Dive” as the name suggest is a purpose designed
and built scuba dive vessel set up to operate specifically for the
serious divers and will travel to exclusive and pristine dive sites
north of Port Douglas. The 16 Metre dive catamaran will travel with
25 guests and is set to impress the dive experience seeker. The layout
also has provision for overnight accommodation with two double berths
/lounges either side of the helm and the lower cabin seats convert
to a further four double berths. This is in the case where the vessel
is chartered for overnight trips out to Islands such as Lizard Island.
Designed features include top decks with sun lounges and large, spacious
upper and lower foredecks with comfortable day bed seating to maximize
outdoor relaxation.
The vessel is for proud owners Calypso Charters and is the forth NWC
have built for this owner over the past 4 years. “Over the last
few years operating Calypso I have found there is a strong demand in
the market to operate a vessel solely for scuba dive enthusiasts. With
the new design of this fast catamaran we will be able to access 3 exclusive
sites on the Great Barrier Reef in one day,” Graham Jones said.
The
design is from Paul Birgan of Sea Speed Design and is of the new super
deep vee type and utilizes the latest in carbon fiber twin foil technology
developed in conjunction with Andy Duvall. These have been used in
combination with Seafury Sf 30 Surface Drives, which in this case give
substantial increase in speed and fuel economy over conventional propulsion
systems.
She is powered by twin Cummins QSM 11 main engines (580 H.P) and twin disc 5114a gear boxes giving a top speed of over 32 knots. Which is quite surprising since she is not of light weight construction as is the case of all Sea Speed/New Wave Cat’s Seacats.
Other features include an in build dive compressor and dive banks
run off a small independent Yanmar motor and Dicon side load system.
Long range fuel capacity of 2 x 3000 ltr. Hot and cold water showers
and taps, large two door refrigerator and a small galley.
